Messed Up Doctor’s Records

by Andy - January 30th, 2010 - 8:22 am| Messed Up Email of the Day | one comment

I recently moved from Smyrna to Lascassas. I took care of changing all the the things needed when making such a move. And when the time came to make an annual docotr’s appointment I changed doctor’s to one closer to my new home. The new dr. (a pediatrician)saw my child even though i hadn’t brought my their records. The new Dr.had me fill out a medical transcript request and said they’d send to my “old” dr. and take care of getting the records for me. At my next appt. with the new dr. they said the “old” dr. wouldn’t release the records. SO I called the “old” dr. and was told that they charge $20 for release of records. WHAT?!?! They’re MY records and why does the office visit payment not cover recording keeping? I moved, didn’t change dr. for any other reason than relocation but I’m being charged for it. I was told by the “old” dr. it was standard among most offices today. I called over a dozen other medical offices and not even ONE charges for dr.
to dr. transfer of records. Some do charge to give copies to the patient but not a new dr. After many failed attempts on the phone I sent them a letter stating my disappointment on my childs records being held hostage and now my child can not see the new “dr” without his records. After my letter stating I could not and would not pay for my own records being sent to a new dr. They send me a BILL for the amount!! What choice do I have but pay the bill or face the consequences of a blemish on my credit for undpaid medical charge. I am so upset and feel it is CRAZY to be charged for my own records!! I”ve paid every office copay, every test ordered, every prescription given and have been faithful to that Dr. alone until we moved and now they won’t give my new dr. my child’s records.

Messed Up Cigarettes?

by Andy - January 29th, 2010 - 8:15 am| Messed Up Email of the Day | no comments

FSC cigarrettes are not fire safe! When they go out on you and you relight
them, they catch on fire; also the stuff put in the paper to make them fire
safe is terrible for inhaling… Bring back regular cigarrettes before
something tragic happens! Noone is just gonna quit smoking that easy, times
are messed up and very stressful!

Dead Cows

by Andy - January 28th, 2010 - 8:00 am| Messed Up Email of the Day | no comments

On Sunday,Jan 24, my husband & I took a ride to Franklin, TN. We live in
Murfreesboro, TN and on our way to Franklin on Rt 431 we saw a sight that
was very disturbing. On the side of the road & in plain few was a dead
cow, legs stiff, in an area of the fence that was inset. It looked as though
the area was just for that purpose. The vultures were perched on the fence
and some on the cow. I just could not believe what I was seeing. I was
raised on a farm in IL, and that was not the procedure,in those days, to
remove a dead animal. I have heard the expression that things are
different in TN. However things can’t be that different. Franklin is such
a pretty town, but what an eyesore. Is this legal??????

Knife on a Plane

  by Jeanette - January 27th, 2010 - 4:30 pm| Public Safety | 9 comments

We all know you can’t bring guns and knives and even shampoo through security checkpoints at the airport.

We all know we have to take off our shoes and pass them through the screening machine at the airport.

We all know we are going to show multiple forms of identification to a myriad of TSA agents who could possibly order us to another location for a secondary inspection.

We all know to take off our coats, and not to joke about bombs while standing in the TSA line.

We all know that the list of security measures to get on an airplane is extensive.

That’s why Joe Scott was so shocked when his wife found a knife accidentally left inside his lap top bag.

knife-1

On January 10th, the Scott’s discovered the four inch 3-blade-knife several thousand feet in the air, while on board a Delta Flight headed to Salt Lake City, Utah.

Scott says he could have remained quiet about the obvious security breach, but the father of 8 says he decided to do the right thing, and notify the flight attendants.

Scott says the matter was handled on board in a quiet, discreet manner. He says the flight attendant warned him he would need to speak with security once they landed, but he was assured it would not last long and he would not miss his connecting flight to Seattle, where Scott was going to visit grandkids.

Scott says everything changed when the plane pulled up to the gate.

“Everyone stood and the flight attendant says please take your seats. And then U.S. marshals, and airport security and police shout out, “who is the couple with the knife?” They point to my wife and I and the plane is packed. They escort us off. Instead of going to a private place to discuss how this knife got through security, they stopped us at the top of the ramp and encircled us and interrogated us for 35 minutes over the stupid pocket knife.”

Scott says every passenger exiting the plane stared at him and his wife as if they were criminals.

“The U.S. Marshal was talking to me, his hand is on his gun the whole time. I said, dude, you are freaking me out. And he says I am from N.Y.C. and that is what we do. I felt like they treated us as terrorists. They didn’t catch the knife. My wife and I turned it in to them. We were honest and everything, and they didn’t say thanks or nothing.”

Scott says he misses his connecting flight. Scott says the only positive element of this story is that the airport manager in Salt Lake City did mail him back his grandfather’s pocket knife.

Messed Up obtains a report from the Salt Lake City police. The report is thin, referring to the case as a suspicious activity incident. The report echoes the story told by Mr. Scott, without all the details.

knife-2

Messed Up also speaks numerous times with TSA officials out of the regional office in Atlanta.

Jonathan Allen sends me this statement:

On January 10, TSA was notified of a passenger who self-disclosed possession of a prohibited item during a flight from Nashville to Salt Lake City. The passenger stated that he inadvertently brought the prohibited item onboard the plane and disclosed it when he realized it was in his possession. TSA and local law enforcement met the flight. The passenger was interviewed, rescreened with negative findings and allowed to continue his travels.

In addition to checkpoint screening, TSA employs multiple layers of security including behavior detection officers, hardened cockpit doors, federal air marshals and federal flight deck officers. While no layer is impenetrable, the combination of layers results in a formidable security system.

We are reviewing the incident and will take appropriate action if necessary.

I ask Allen about human error or mechanical failure in Nashville. He would not elaborate only telling me that there are many layers to security and the system worked.

The way Mr. Scott sees it; the only reason the system worked is because he is honest and voluntarily turned in the knife.

Would a would-be terrorist be so accommodating?

Messed Up Gas Bill

by Andy - January 26th, 2010 - 12:17 pm| Messed Up Email of the Day | no comments

My sister-in-law gas was shut off When she went to pay the bill ($300) withn 3 days they told her that they would require a $600 deposit before they would turn the gas back on. How does Nashville gas expect people who can barely pay their gas bill come up with the extra money. These people are already deciding whether to keep warm or feed the kids. Piedomont gas was kind enought to provide numbers of all agencies who ran out of money for assistances. So now the kids have live next four weeks with no heat until the family can come up with the money. Now that is messup for any poor person who has to do business with Piedmont Gas. The state should manadate that double deposit should be exempt in winter months as to ensure that people don’t freeze. It is mess up that Piedmont gas is only concern about getting a extra month of money for deposit than keeping people warm.

Nashville National Cemetery Wall Down

What began as a series of traffic accidents seven months ago is starting to feel like disrespect to family members, whose loved ones are buried at the Nashville National Cemetery on Gallatin Road.

The problem is the wall lining the cemetery has been destroyed. There is crime tape and car parts scattered about. That debris and destruction are only a few feet away from headstones.

According to Metro Police, there were actually two wrecks at this section of wall, two weeks apart.

The first wreck on June 2nd started as a tire blowout, according to Metro Police. The Driver was cited for not having a license.

Investigators tell Messed Up the 2nd wreck on June 15th hit the same stretch of wall. The driver was a 17 year old mentally challenged teen who also was not licensed to drive.

Kim Mahone’s grandparents are buried here. She says it’s disrespectful to not repair the damage next to her grandparents’ grave.

“The whole brick wall in front of her grave is knocked down. Bumper and bricks and pieces of head light have been laying there for a while. We try calling and ask when will they fix it. I went up to the office. I get up there and they are busy, I am doing this for everyone’s family. Those people fought in the war. It’s an invasion of privacy.”

cem-1

Mahone says she just wants the wall repaired. 7 months is long enough she says.

“We are upset!”

We contact regional director, Paul Martin, who tells us his agency is working on the issue, but there is no time table for repairs.

By phone Martin tells Messed Up:

“Of course we care about what happens in the cemetery and how it affects the next of kin of our soldiers. This all takes considerable time. The wall is old, and so we want to be sure to get the right materials.”

Martin tells us that the federally subsidized cemetery has a budget that allows for upkeep, but not necessarily for destruction of this magnitude.

Martin wants families to know that the cemetery is working with the parks service to address the issue and is not taking this issue lightly.

Courthouse Parking Lot is Messed Up

parking-lot-3

Going to Juvenile Court is often a stressful experience.

Parking at the Juvenile Courthouse should not add to that stress, but lately it has been doing just that.

According to Central Parking officials, on January 8th, 2 older parking terminals were removed from lot E and replaced with a single, more modern unit.

According to citizens coming to the court, the new solar powered unit has never worked well, and because of that, lines are long and people are frequently late to court.

Messed Up goes to parking lot E on Wednesday 1/20/10 around 12:30 pm, ½ an hour before the afternoon court docket is scheduled to begin.

There are approximately a dozen people in line, all of whom saythe machine is malfunctioning.

Though it says it will accept cash, the machine is not accepting dollar bills. The red light is on and it indicates it will only take credit cards, which is a longer authorization process.

Several people in line don’t have credit cards, so people with cash end up cutting deals with people with credit cards to pay for their tickets.

As one nice woman with a credit card tells Messed Up, “I shouldn’t have to take money from someone to pay for their parking.”

Another man tells me his concern is that the new terminal requires you to know your license tag number. If you don’t know your license number, he says you have to stop your transaction, get out of line, go to your car and get back in line and wait all over again.

One woman with a small child tells us that court is stressful enough and the headache of worrying about paying for a parking space and being late to court is unnecessary.

Sources inside the court house tell messed up lawyers have been complaining for weeks, even calling from the parking lot to tell the court they were running 30 minutes late.

I go to the Central Parking office on Church Street where VP and General Manager Richard Wagner addresses the issue.

To his credit, Wagner says he immediately dispatched a crew to the machine, which he says was malfunctioning.

“When we did the installation, we replaced two older machines, called Lexus; they were failing, so we put in digital equipment in its place. To be candid the credit card receiver was not working properly, when we first installed it on January 8th. We were quickly trying to install it since the other machines were failing. Unfortunately that machine was not totally ready to go out.”

He tells me that the credit card mode was not set properly to begin with which is why authorization times were taking so long.

Thanks to our call, he says that was corrected.

parking-lot-line-51

As for the money not being accepted, Wagner says the company believes it is a humidity issue.

“The bill accepters are susceptible to humidity and we had failures. We corrected it and now we are working on how to reduce the humidity problem. W are going to try “stay dry” internally with the equipment and we’ll put up a shelter to shield the equipment from rainfall. We want a smooth transaction that takes a few seconds, for people to do their business.”

Wagner agrees with citizens complaining about the lack of signage on the lot regarding license plate info, and he says that will be addressed immediately.
