Messed Up Email of the Day: Smoking pot at the Dave Matthews concert

  by Andy - April 30th, 2009 - 2:04 pm| Uncategorized | 27 comments

Today’s Messed Up email comes from a viewers upset at all the pot smoking at the Dave Matthews concert and the lack of response by security.

On Saturday April 25 My wife and I along with some friends came out to Vanderbilt Stadium to enjoy the Dave Matthews Band Concert. All was well until groups around us began to Light up. When telling the police about what was going on and explaining that we can point the people out they never came up to our section. Finally the 3rd cop that was told reluctantly came up after I explained for the 3rd time that it was going on. To make matters worse my wife is 9 weeks pregnant and she asked the second set of cops who did nothing. Most stadiums throughout the U.S. you can’t even smoke cigarettes in the stadium but apparently Vanderbilt stadium and police allow Illegal substances to be smoked. THATS MESSED UP!

I hate to call you naive, but what is next? Are you going to take your wife to the Republican Convention and complain about the proposition of conservative views? Hello, you went to a DMB concert!

  2. - Comment by Jay | May 1, 2009 @ 11:33 am

Concert goers have an expectation of a drug free and smoke free concert. The police should have resolved the problem the first time they were asked to. They could have easily ejected the smokers from the concert and should have.

“I hate to call you naive, but what is next?…. gee.. I dunno.. maybe an expectation that when at a public event that the LAW would be enforced ?!? ( having conservative views at a Republican convention is not exactly an ARRESTABLE OFFENSE ).

What a tool…..go see Hannah Montana if you don’t want to deal with a little pot smoke at an OUTDOOR concert. Please pull your panties out of your vajay. good lord

lol, what an idiot. Really? Pot-smoking at a dave show…who cares? There is pot smoking at almost every outdoor show. Maybe you should stop being a panzee and just enjoy the show. Oh and if you wanna be really ambitous grab that joint and smoke it!

you should twitter Dave about it. He remembers. Sorry, gotta go, Carter is calling me

    one word: snitch

    nobody likes a snitch

p.s. don’t bring a pregnant woman to a dave matthews band concert at a college and expect to not be surrounded by the “evil” weed smokers.

Andy, I’m sorry you had such a bad experience at the show. Next time just sit at home at let your wife tug on your balls as I am sure your home is a smoke-free environment.

  12. - Comment by Tony | May 1, 2009 @ 5:38 pm

You are literally a moron. I hope you get kidnapped by the mexican drug cartel and forced to smoke weed until your lungs collapse.

Which in my opinion wouldn’t be the worst way to go…

Some people just like to complain for complainings sake huh? and going to get the cops, wow. just wow. Go read the bible again a few more times, you lame ass.

  13. - Comment by Kathryn | May 1, 2009 @ 5:44 pm

It’s a misdemeanor, like speeding. Do you call the cops every time you see someone speeding? Did you try politely asking the people not to smoke near you since your wife is pregnant? I have found that most peeps are pretty considerate about it if you just ask. Going and grabbing the cops might not have been the best way to go about it.

  14. - Comment by Smackie | May 1, 2009 @ 5:52 pm

Its pretty bad when even the cops know you’re a tool.

Here’s a tip…..don’t blame DMB, blame the school. I’ve been to many Vanderbilt football games at the stadium (also Memorial Gym for Men’s/Women’s Basketball games) and according to the school rules, you’re are not allowed to have alcohol and/or illegal drugs at the stadium. It sounds like Vanderbilt did a poor job with security for a concert like DMB. Maybe they should forget about having music concerts at the stadium and concentrate on hosting college/high school football games instead.

Give me a break. This will happen at just about any outdoor concert. Besides country shows, it’s happened at every single concert I’ve ever been to. I always smoke at shows, but I mean other than me-every single show. That’s incredibly unrealistic to expect otherwise, especially at a dave matthews band concert. I’ve seen them 15 times-why don’t you get the thought that it was just that venue right out of your head.

  17. - Comment by Jack | May 1, 2009 @ 9:51 pm

Come to Bonnaroo in Manchester next month. I guarantee you won’t have to deal with any pot or other illegal drugs. (wink)

    *AAH CHOO!* NAZI!!

  19. - Comment by Lane | May 5, 2009 @ 2:54 pm

I would have loved to have been there; pot smoking or not. Here is a little Dave Speak “I smoked when I was younger. I turned out ok.” (taken from a late night talk show and the issue of pot came up)

  20. - Comment by Observer | May 5, 2009 @ 3:22 pm

Outside concerts usually have a smoke free section.

    Why weren’t you there?

  21. - Comment by Lizzie | May 5, 2009 @ 6:14 pm

Bottom line; it’s illegal and the police should have done something about it - it doesn’t matter that this behavior is “usually” found at a DMB concert or not. I have significant health issues and smoke, of any kind, makes me very ill. Unfortunately, I have had to give up concerts. Sadly, sounds like that is what your wife will have to do as well. As you can tell by the comments, the “illegal substance” smokers are not very sympathetic to this. Anyone who would blatently break the law doesn’t really care as to how their actions may affect others.

  22. - Comment by Rick | May 10, 2009 @ 12:31 pm

Obviously the writer is new to the world of concerts. Pot smoking is everywhere at these shows. If you don’t know it, you’re hideously naive.

It’s equally naive to think that the cops are going to haul the pot smokers off to the hoosegow. They have bigger things to watch for, like assault, theft and vandalism.

  23. - Comment by jared | June 15, 2009 @ 11:42 am

actually pot is mentioned in the bible as the herb or the magical herb so even if you read the bible you should be okay with pot.. but getting the cops? come on now. they were probably tokin it up themselves. if you didnt like it why didnt you move? or politely ask them to blow it the other way? most smokers would be completely understanding. they probably kept blowing it your direction because you were a tool and went and got the cops.

    snitches get stitches.

its proven pot does less damage than alcohol anyway and im pretty sure you were probably drinkin a beer or two or 5 since your wife is prego and has to drive you home.

MESSED UP is being at a DMB concert and spending the entire time flipping out over something as ridiculous as someone smoking weed. MORE MESSED UP is responding by chasing off duty cops around the venue for stupid crap when they’re obviously just there to make some extra cash. EVEN MORE MESSED UP whining to every officer you can find instead of letting the issue go and dragging one of them off on your lame crusade to arrest and/or expel a pothead because your delicate sensibilities are offended. NEWS FLASH: outdoor venues are loaded with people who smoke weed or cigarettes. MOST MESSED UP OF ALL is the fact that the person that sent this email was at a Dave Matthews Band concert and rather than enjoy the show he wasted his night on pathetic “pot patrol” thereby missing what was probably a kick ass performance by the band. In polite circles we call that a lamer…next time stay home and rent the video.

This guy just needs to go kill himself, i bet if you ask this guy if hes ever smoked, he’ll say no its bad for you, well try it, and tell me you didnt have the best time, then post another gay comment, bottom line, its better for you than alchahol and cigarrettes

  26. - Comment by Rob | September 18, 2009 @ 8:39 pm

Pot’s safer for you than water, no baby has ever miscarriaged or been retarded nor person ever died from too much pot, unlike water. Come on, DMB concerts are linked to pot, hell concerts in general you’ll most likely find pot(never been to one there wasn’t)Cops arent worried about pot at shows, its a no risk thing, theyre worried about assault’s.

  27. - Comment by A Citizen | September 19, 2009 @ 5:42 pm

Rob, thank God you told everyone that no-one MISCARRIAGED their baby from marijuana use. If you are user of marijuana, then I think you have to be best proof that marijuana causes a person to not only appear really, really stupid but even may cause a person to become functionally delayed.

So you have scientific proof that marijuana is harmless? Show us the proof. Link to studies that support your stance, please. I really would love to read the journal article that discusses this so call ‘miscarriaged’ study.
