Messed Up Email Of The Day: Dog Kennel

  by Andy - December 4th, 2008 - 4:48 pm| Uncategorized | 4 comments

Today’s email of the day is from a person who requested we keep their identity private. There was also a sentence we removed that named the husband of the neighbor whose name was also removed.

Hi Andy. I was visiting a friend in pulaski recently. her neighbor, NAMED REMOVED, is running a dog kennel from her home. She has over 35 dogs right now. Most of them are little, lap dogs. She keeps them outside in crates, or stacked up one on top of another through the house. They are filthy. She has had 9 to die from Parvo. And recently we learned that she has acquired yet another litter. I, and my friend, have contacted both Giles County authorities and Pulaski Police to report this. This has been going on for awhile. Isn’t it illegal to have a kennel inside city limits? As well as inhumane to let the dogs live like this? Thank you. Please keep me anonymous.

i believe that these puppy farms should be controlled or licensed by the county or city. we required other business to have a business license and these people are only concerned about profit in these puppy kennels. in the town i live in i know of a place with similar conditions and no one seems to care. if you buy one of these puppies you are buying a lfetime of health problems and heartbreak because so many of these animals never make it to adulthood. these people who do this to animals should not be allowed to continue in this business.

There’s a woman in the town over from mine who runs a “puppy mill” with over 200 dogs varying in breed from Afghan Hound to Pomeranian. It’s a very pitiful environment, and many of the dogs suffer from health problems, both genetic and from the lack of proper care. A few friends and I have tried on many occasions to get officials out there to inspect her place to no avail. I’m assuming that for as long as she’s been around, she probably has an official or two in her “pocket” thus why no actions have been made. I sincerely wish that a law was passed to help control and protect from others following in her footsteps. Until then it’s up to we people that genuinely do care for the well being of our furry friends to do all we can to ensure they’re treated as they should be.

Calling the media is one option, but have either of you called Code Enforcement? If the law is being broken, either through overcrowding, disease, or failure to comply with zoning laws, then they need to be put out of business.

Stephanie, it’s unlikely that your assumption is correct, since if the problem is visible enough, good poeple would complain. Are you complaining? To the right people? If you’re SURE they’re breaking the law, there are all sorts of ways of publicizing the problem if the authorities won’t take care of it. You can also publicize the authorities’ lack of action.

But you’d better be in the right, not just a disgruntled neighbor with a bone to pick.
